Steelers 2011 Training Camp – Day Fifteen Recap

2011 Steelers Training CampNot too terribly much to report on the 15th day of training camp for the Steelers as they had an early morning practice that was closed to the public. There were however a few happenings to report today.

Stan Savarn talked to Max Starks today on ESPN 970 and you can listen to it here beginning at the 11:45 mark. Starks said he has not made any visits yet and he is just busy training right now. He said it was a cap issue that led to his release and no conversation has taken place since about him coming back thus far. Free agency is something very new to him and he is not angry at the Steelers as he understands it\’s a business. He finished by saying it was a blessing to be a Pittsburgh Steeler.

Free agent tight end Reggie Kelly refuted a report that he was going to retire and says he is still talking to the Steelers. Kelly says he knows offensive coordinator Bruce Arians from his college years and said he had a good visit to Latrobe.

Bob Pompeani of KDKA sat down with Ben Roethlisberger in his dorm room at Saint Vincent College for an exclusive interview and you can read the Q & A here. Ben says he is not very interested in joining Twitter and does not see Troy Polamalu ending his career elsewhere. He is confident they will get him extended.

Ike Taylor was on 93.7 The Fan this morning and talked about his decision to stay with the Steelers. Ike says the best thing about training camp is just hanging with the guys.

Packers cornerback Jarrett Bush was asked by Packers beat writer Tom Silverstein about the interception in the Super Bowl. On the play Bush stepped in front of Mike Wallace for the pick of Roethlisberger. Bush chalked it up to good film study.

The big news of the day was that free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery had agreed to a one-year contract with the Steelers this afternoon. Cotchery will likely be in camp on Sunday. Here are my thoughts on Cotchery and how he possibly could be a free agent steal if his back is recovered from offseason surgery.

The Steelers flew out to Washington today and they will take on the Redskins Friday night. Check back Friday as I have a full slate of content coming prior to the game starting.
