The Steelers announced yet another undrafted free agent signing today as Southern Illinois quarterback Chris Dieker was signed today according to the Steelers website. Dieker measures in at 6-foot-5, 230 pounds and compiled a 20-9 record in his three years as a starter. He left Southern Illinois ranked in the top five in school history in 13 different offensive categories. He finished his career at the school ranked third in six different categories: passing yards (5,237), completions (446), attempts (757), completion percentage (.589), touchdown passes (41) and total offense (5,735).
Dieker looks to merely be a camp arm at this point and will likely only get limited snaps during his time on the roster. It is a bit of a surprising signing being as the Steelers look to head into camp now with 5 quarterbacks. Dennis Dixon might be getting a few offers as a restricted free agent, as he was tendered at the lowest level prior to the lockout starting. Another possible scenario is that the Steelers might be considering releasing veteran Charlie Batch to save some cap room. These now brings the total to 20 undrafted players signed by the Steelers.
